Just south of Melbourne's bustling city centre is a market loved by locals, but unknown to most tourists. The South Melbourne Markets are a cornucopia of local treats, friendly faces and photogenic foods. Join our local guide and sample 14 unique food samples. Trust us - you won't leave hungry from this tour. Before finishing this tour, you'll have had an opportunity to sample delicious French croissants, Chinese/Australian Dim Sims, sea urchins (yup, you can eat them, and we'll show you how), and much much more.
This tour will start at Southern Cross Station, just under the clocktower in the main terminal. From there we'll hop on a tram (if you don't have a travel pass, we'll help you buy one) to the markets. Once you arrive, you'll learn a bit more about the history, meet some of the vendors, and find out how to shop for the best foods.
While markets are great, that can be overwhelming. That's where your guide comes in. Your guide will be able to scan the dozens of food options at each place and pick out exactly the most memorable food item at each stop. The bulk of the tour is walking from market stall to market stall sampling hearty portions of food.
At the end of the tour, we'll pop over to a historic pub for a drink where you can recover — or head straight back in for some independent shopping time.
