Take a day trip to Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park while your ship is in port in Burnie. You’ll travel through the small towns in the highlands of Tasmania and also, depending on your ship's departure time, visit Sheffield to see the town’s world-famous murals and Railton to see the iconic topiary. With time permitting a stop may also be made at Bass Straight Maritime Centre in Devonport.

Your guide will meet you at the Burnie Port pickup point for a leisurely drive to Lake St. Clair National Park. Drive through the park to view and experience the majestic Cradle Mountain and catch glimpses of the native wildlife, which is abundant in this area.

From Lake St. Clair, depending on your ship's departure time, head for Sheffield, where you can view the many murals painted on the walls throughout the town that depict the area's rich history and natural scenery. This would be a suitable place to stop for lunch (own expense).

Continue to Railton to see the iconic topiary. Walk through the town and see the many shrubs and trees that have been clipped into ornamental shapes.

On the return trip to Burnie, with time permitting, you can stop at the very interesting Bass Straight Maritime Centre in Devonport, which will give you an insight of times long past.

Welcome to Burnie! We hope you enjoy your time in Burnie, even though it is only for one day. We offer Cradle Mountain day trips that are tailored to suit your needs. Obviously, sometimes the tour has to be trimmed to 6 hours, due to the departure times for your cruise ship. All good...we can accommodate your needs! you will still be able to see Cradle Mountain and the magniicent Dove Lake. 
Please try to get off the ship early. Take a ( free) shuttle bus from your ship, to the Makers Workshop( Burnie visitors cebtre), which is where we will greet you with a name board and a smile.
The rest of the day, just relax and be shown the best of this stunning part of NW Tasmania. A short drive up to a lookout gives us a magnificent photo opportunity of your ship in port. Then, we head inland through magnificent farming land and forest areas, stopping at scenic places on the way. At Cradle Mountain, we enter the National Park and allow ourselves to wonder what the Earth must have looked like thousands of years ago...Time to exp[lore. After a light lunch, perhaps another forest walk before heading back off the mountain through pretty villages and farm areas, to the beautiful NW coast. Here we take in the many sights before getting you back in good time to return to your cruise ship.

Cradle Mountain is a must see for every Cruise ship visitor to Burnie!

After a brief city tour of Burnie (including a fantastic photo opportunity of your ship in Port), we leave Burnie via the very rich agricultural hinterland and head south towards Cradle Mountain. Along the way, marvel at the fantastic fields of crops and the happy cattle and sheep grazing away. 

A comfort stop at beautiful Guide falls or historic Waratah* breaks the journey enough to allow morning tea to be served to you. Arriving at the Visitors Centre at Cradle Mountain allows some time to grab any last minute souvenirs or articles for your short trek at Dove Lake. After our walk we have a light lunch (at own cost), allowing enough time to explore some of the other features that make this area so popular with people from all walks of life. 

The tour will return to Burnie Visitors Centre via the fantastic Coastal route, in good time to re board your ship**. Fantastic!

Get ready to be reinvigorated by Mother Nature’s vibes! Cradle Mountain is not to be missed whilst your ship is docked in Burnie. This is your chance to get up close and personal to tranquillity and beauty in this world heritage listed area. Cradle Mountain offers some of world’s most famous natural beauty and is one of Australia’s most popular scenic tours.

Indulge in outdoor activities - discover rainforests, waterfalls, rivers, lakes and keep your eye out for our unique wildlife. There are a number of beautiful short walks available, including the Enchanted Walk, Dove Lake, Rainforest Walk, The Weindorfers Forest Walk. All walks range from easy to moderate level. Choose one to suit your level of comfort and fitness.

On the way back down the mountain (if time permits), we will pull into a beautiful winery on the banks of Lake Barrington or one nestled in the countryside of Sheffield (the town of murals) for something to eat or to simply sample the local cool climate wines. PLEASE NOTE:

To get the full experience including winery and/or Sheffield, your tour must go for a minimum of 6.5 hours. To work this out add one hour to arrival time e.g. Arrival 9am tour will depart 10am and for departure time deduct one hour off departure time e.g. 5.30 departure 4.30pm arrival back to port.


If time permits (depending on departure of your ship), we will visit Sheffield the ‘Town of Murals’ with over 30 murals painted across the town showing the history of the area. Walk the streets and browse through the quaint little shops and cafes whilst taking photos of the incredible murals this unique town offers.

* We do not provide food or drinks as part of this tour. We will provide an opportunity to stop along the way where you will be able to purchase a takeaway lunch.
